How many people with suicidal ideation seek medical attention?
It is estimated that only about 25% of those who attempt to take his life, seeking medical attention or psychological.
The fact that 25% of those who attempt to take his life, seek help, it is not guaranteed that the start or the end, involved economic factors, family, emotional, among others that affect negatively to start, stay, and end with a successful therapeutic process and/or accompaniment, so that, in many cases, if the start should abandon it or postpone it.
Economic resources as a problem to seek help
The involvement of economic, social, labour and the post-pandemic a product of Covid-19, has produced people prioritize in what they are going to use your money, should cover their basic needs, such as feeding the family, education, and care for the mental health, is an action that is delayed, many families leave it in last place, or simply not caring, because they did not have the economic resources, which is producing complex emotional states, including: depression, deep sadness, ideation, impotence, frustration and ideation, attempts or completion of suicide.
Our project: DESPITE EVERYTHING YES TO LIFE
So above is the fact that the costa Rican Center of Logotherapy, Viktor Frankl (NGOS, non-profit organization), has created the project: “in SPITE OF EVERYTHING, YES TO LIFE”, which aims to prevent and respond to suicidal ideation in people of all ages, especially people between 12 and 30 years (the age group with the highest propensity to ideation, attempt, or execution of the suicide), that do not have the financial resources to receive psychological care and/or professional support, especially to expand the area of influence and attention to rural areas, in which access to services is more limited.
People assisted in this project by our Center
Since 2018, the Logotherapy Center started this project and we have treated 568 people with suicidal ideation, attempted suicide in their families and those survivors of completed suicide.
Our goal is to bring hope in the midst of pain, of existential emptiness, which is why we work from the approach (psychotherapy) of Logotherapy, with professionals in Psychology, Guidance, Education, Social Work, Medicine and Psychiatry.
What do we need to carry out this project consistently?
We must pay the fees of professionals who care for people who cannot afford the cost of consultations and who require immediate attention.
The professionals donate a part of their time and services, but we must pay them another part.
That is why we request support to achieve our main objective in this project: that people discover the personal, family and context resources they have and discover meaning in their lives, the why of their lives and that they re-signify their emptiness. existential or hopelessness for a… DESPITE EVERYTHING YES TO LIFE!.
